What Makes Natural Color Diamonds Rare?

The rarity of fancy color diamonds is attributed to several factors, including the presence of specific trace elements, unique structural anomalies, and the geological conditions during the diamond's formation.

Only one out of every 10,000 carats of cut diamonds exhibits a fancy color, and the likelihood of a diamond displaying an intense color is even slimmer—just one in 25,000. Among fancy colors, browns and yellows are the most common, while red, blue, green, purple, and orange remain the rarest.
